About Lauren Ryan
Lauren Ryan (she/her), the creator of the Voices from the Palestinian Diaspora project, is a 4th generation Palestinian-American, currently residing on Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican lands. She is pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies at Williams College and will graduate in June 2025. In her academic work, she focuses on global Indigenous land-based literature and its theory. She is extremely passionate about countering colonization everywhere it exists, particularly through ensuring that histories are not erased. She is extremely inspired by the work of Native American and Aboriginal peoples across Turtle Island, especially with regard to cultural revitalization, archiving oral histories, and refusing to be silent in the face of colonial erasure. A few individuals she has found herself particularly drawn to of late include Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, LeAnne Howe, and Monique Tyndall. Tyndall’s work “Restringing Pathways to the Ancestors: An Indigenous Family History Project” has particularly inspired Lauren throughout the Voices from the Palestinian Diaspora project. She would like to thank her academic and faculty advisors for their continued guidance and support. She would also like to extend a thank you to her mother, who helped her with the translation of many of the interviews in this project, as well as all of the individuals who offered up their stories to be shared and trusted her with the responsibility of displaying them in website form. Finally, she would like to dedicate this project to her grandpa, Mario Roberto Salem Abugattas, whose memory uplifts her daily.
